REVIEWS: LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT Liquid Tension Experiment back to artists page Discography • Audio • Tour Dates • Links Released Mar 10, 1998 –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Liquid Tension Experiment is the outcome of a project put together by Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater upon request from Pete Morticelli and Mike Varney of Magna Carta. Mike compiled a "wish list" of musicians that he would like to have on the album and after numerous phone calls and several months of waiting, the line-up boiled down to Tony Levin (bass/Stick), Jordan Rudess (keyboards), John Petrucci (guitars) and Portnoy (drums). If you are looking for an album that shows excellent musicianship and virtuosity with a serious edge, go out and buy Liquid Tension Experiment. Fans of Dream Theater and possibly the Dixie Dregs / Steve Morse will also take liking to this album. There is a remote possibility of this line-up doing a tour sometime in the next year or so according to Tony Levin, but that remains to be seen. My recommendations for this album are enthusiastic, yet I do warn listeners to fasten their seatbelts for the first listen. Hang on...especially when you get to the 29-minute jam at the end...
