Discography

For more than 25 years, the music of Yes has been thrilling music lovers throughout the world. Not only did this band create exciting new albums of incredible songs, it virtually invented an entirely new style of music... orchestral, symphonic, sometimes folk-influenced rock with lyrical content and social conscience. The band, Yes, and its musicians (both current and former) are still creating music today and have spawned new generations of musicians who have waited for an opportunity to thank their musical "fathers" for the creative energy that Yes inspires.

Now, "Tales From Yesterday... A View From The South Side of The Sky" gives the world an opportunity to hear past and current members of Yes as well as their musical offspring (both figurative and literal) re-create Yes material from new perspectives and with wisdom that only the passing of time allows.

Who Are the Performers?

Robert Berry

"Roundabout" -Robert Berry is best known for his work with Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer in the group "3" as well as a stint with the band "GTR" featuring Steve Howe. Robert gives an entirely fresh approach to this earliest of Yes hits and still is able to retain the integrity and energy of the original. For good measure, Steve Howe contributes the guitar cadenza which completes this piece.

Stanley Snail

"Siberian Khatru" - Two well known L.A. musicians are featured. The late Kevin Gilbert (ex-Toy Matinee, Grammy-winner for his songwriting and production work with Sheryl Crow) and Mike Keneally (Guitarist for Frank Zappa) along with the incredible drumming of Nick D'Virgilio. Magna Carta is honored to have been associated with a great talent like Kevin Gilbert.

Steve Morse

"Mood For A Day" and "The Clap" - Steve Morse has contributed an immense amount to the world of music. His work with the Dixie Dregs, Kansas and Deep Purple as well as his great body of solo albums stands out as being truly artistic in content. Steve has always felt a great regard and warmth towards Steve Howe both musically and personally. Morse contributed these cuts as his own special tribute to Howe and Yes.

Magellan

"Don't Kill The Whale" - Magellan's two widely-acclaimed albums have displayed a depth of musicianship that resembles much of Yes' work. Here they perform a lesser known Yes song with great skill and creativity. Magellan will release their own highly anticipated third album in 1996.

Steve Howe and Annie Haslam

"Turn Of The Century" - Yes guitarist Steve Howe has breathed new life into this beautiful Yes song by teaming with former Renaissance vocalist Annie Haslam. Annie's angelic, five octave range handles melody and lyrics with great tenderness and sensitivity. Howe and Haslam's "Turn Of The Century" will long be remembered for creating a magical atmosphere which is what only truly masterful performances can accomplish.

Shadow Gallery

"Release, Release" - With their new album, "Carved In Stone", currently being touted as "Album Of The Year" in many publications throughout the world, Shadow Gallery seems poised on the verge of a large-scale breakthrough. Their version of the heaviest of all Yes material featuring vocalist Mike Baker rocks from the first note to the last.

World Trade

"Wonderous Stories"- Sound a lot like Yes? Lead vocalist, Billy Sherwood, was once considered as a replacement for Jon Anderson when it looked like the Yes frontman would leave the band. It ultimately didn't work out like that but Billy Sherwood has found a home within the Yes family both in the studio (writing and recording) and on stage (2nd guitar and backup vocals). World Trade has its own excellent album, "Euphoria", and displays its musical excellence on this playful and melodic song.

Cairo

"South Side Of The Sky" - Cairo's debut album won a lot of fans for this creative and talented band from California. Mark Robertson's brilliant keyboard work along with Bret Douglas's vocals standout on this well-done track.

Patrick Moraz

"Soon" - Patrick Moraz's work with Yes (as well as the Moody Blues) will long be remembered by fans of both bands. His acoustic interpretation of "Soon" is a combination of new age sensibility and jazz-flavored improvisation.

Enchant

"Changes" - Enchant has gathered a legion of loyal followers outside the US with its Marillion and Rush-inspired debut album. Enchant contributes "Changes" with all the urgency that Yes originally intended.

Peter Banks

"Astral Traveler" - Peter Banks was the original guitarist in Yes. Teaming on "Astral Traveler" with Robert Berry as co-producer, Peter rocks an instrumental version with the virtuosity that has marked his work with Yes, Flash and his solo LP's.

Jeronimo Road

"Starship Trooper" - Not just a musical son of Yes but a biological son as well, Adam Wakeman (son of Rick) leads his band through a version of "Starship Trooper" with all the energy of players in their early 20's and yet the maturity of accomplished musicians. Jeronimo Road is currently working on material for a debut album with Rick Wakeman in the producer's chair.
